Please, Thank You
Music Therapy manners song for special needs individuals.
Goal: Client will request an item by using “please” and respond to receiving that item with “thank you.”
Domains: Behavior, Language, Speech
You catch more flies with honey than vinegar.
None of the kids I work with seem to enjoy catching flies, but they do like to play instruments. This song teaches how to politely request instruments… or anything else. The verse of the song describes the functions of the words “please” and “thank you.”
If you want something say please.
If you get something say thank you.
This is repeated, so the student can sing along or fill in key words. The chorus of the song models the language that should be used in everyday conversation for requesting and receiving an item.
I want it, please.
Thank you.
Again, this is repeated to allow the child a turn. The entire sequence of verse-verse-chorus-chorus is repeated three more times for ample opportunities to practice.
Multiple fill-in-the-blank versions are included to focus on please, I want it please, thank you, or all key words and phrases. Printable lyric sheets for all versions are included that highlight the targeted words or phrases.
