She was an American girl…
was recorded on July 4th, 1976.

He was an American boy…
Tom Petty was born in Gainesville, Florida, but spent most of his life in California. As a solo artist, the leader of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and a member of the Traveling Wilburys and Mudcrutch he sold over 80 million records. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002. American Girl was the final song performed by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers on September 25, 2017.

It was a German instrument…
Karl August Gütter, of Markneukirchen, Germany, invented the autoharp in 1883. The autoharp is a zither with chord bars attached to dampers that mute all strings that are not a part of the selected chord. It is most commonly used in folk and country music.

It was an English amplifier…
Marshall Amplification got its start in 1962 in Hanwell, London. The company is most well known for their electric guitar amplifiers. Autoharps are traditionally not plugged into electric guitar amplifiers… but I like to party.
