All Your Favorite Bands

I can not stop listening to this song, “All Your Favorite Bands” by Dawes, and when I’m this excited about a song, I have to learn how to play it. Harmonically it’s very simple, but the lyrics are so moving. The chorus wraps up with the words “may all your favorite bands stay together.” What a powerful sentiment for a music lover. It reminds me of the Irish blessing “May the road rise us to meet you…” I enjoy complex, multi-layered music, but I also appreciate a song that can be stripped down to just one voice and one instrument and not lose its magic.

Somewhat ironically, this is the only song on the album co-written by someone (Jonny Fritz) not in the band.

Much more ironically, the band member with the most crucial role in performing the song (keyboardist Tay Strathairn) just recently quit the band.
