2 Sounds = 1 Word

Music Therapy speech song for special needs individuals.
Goal: Client will imitate single letter sounds and combined letter sounds.
Domain: Speech

This song uses a common teaching technique – breaking down a difficult task into smaller, more manageable parts. Beginning with practicing two individual phonemes separately leads to the more advanced task of combining those two sounds into a single syllable.

Each verse models the individual sounds multiple times and leaves two blanks per sound for the client to respond.
Each chorus models the combined sound multiple times and leaves two blanks for the client to respond.

Two example recordings are included:
“hi” works on the “h” and long “i” sounds
“bye” works on the “b” and long “i” sounds

An instrumental version is also included to work on sounds of your choosing. The verse and chorus repeats four times. You may work on the same sounds/word each time or, for more fluent speakers, choose a different word for each repeat. For example, if your client is working on an initial “s” sound, you may try 1. say, 2. see, 3. sigh, and 4. so. Although the song is called “2 Sounds = 1 Word” you may decide to use it as “2 Sounds = 1 Consonant Blend” (albeit, a less catchy title) to work on 1. br, 2. cr, 3. dr, and 4. fr, or whatever fits the needs of your client.
