Music Therapy coin value video & song for special needs individuals.
Goal: Client will identify the values of four United States coins: penny, nickel, dime, and quarter.
Domains: Academics, Math
This is a coin value song. The project contains three videos: teaching, testing, and fill-in-the-blank. In the choruses of all videos, all four coins are shown (along with their values) always in the same order: left to right, lowest value to highest value, penny, nickel, dime, and quarter.
The four verses of the teaching video show one coin at a time, show the coin words, sing the coin words, show the coin values, and sing the coin values.
The four verses of the testing video remove the visual and sung coin values for your student to provide the responses.
The four verses of the fill-in-the-blank videos show all four coins at once. In addition to the visual and sung coin values being removed, the written and sung coin names are also removed. This is an opportunity for the teacher to decide the order in which students will identify the coin values.
To make sure students are actually learning the coin values (and not just memorizing the order provided in the chorus) each verse presents the coins in a different order. Also, the heads sides of the coins are shown in verses 1 and 2, and the tails sides are used in verses 3 and 4.
Verse 1: (heads) penny, nickel, dime, quarter
Verse 2: (heads) nickel, quarter, penny, dime
Verse 3: (tails) dime, penny, quarter, nickel
Verse 4: (tails) quarter, dime, nickel, penny
This is NOT a coin identification song. THIS is a coin identification song. I have had the most success with making coin identification and coin values two separate goals.
