On Sunday, April 19, I attended a CD Release Party at The Focal Point. The CD: For The Kids. The Band: FIRE DOG. The band consists of Mark-O-Polo (guitar & vocals), Celia (bass & vocals), and Mike Schurk (drums). FIRE DOG has been around since 2006… the year of the Chinese Zodiac element fire and the animal sign dog. This is the band’s fifth album and while all of their music is family-friendly this is one is specifically For The Kids. Here is Mark and his son:
FIRE DOG avoids dumbing down their content for children. The result is music that is equally enjoyable for parents and their kids. Some songs carry a positive message (I Love Myself), some songs teach (Bessie Coleman), and some songs are just plain fun (You Don’t Know My Momma). Mark and Celia do a great job of keeping the crowd engaged, involved, and entertained. At one point in the show, one child decided she would like to be on stage too… and who could blame her?

The album is available for purchase HERE! but the best way to get a copy is to go to a show, get some Rock Star Autographs, and have a discussion with Mark-O-Polo about the Hellbender Salamander. Keep up to date on future performances HERE!
Earlier this year I was visiting a Parkway elementary school to see some music therapy students and I saw FIRE DOG setting up for a show in the cafeteria. That’s when I learned about a program called Springboard that provides creative arts programs to local schools. For more information on getting FIRE DOG to perform at your school click HERE!
